PrEP at URMC

Find the right HIV prevention method for you.

Protect your sexual health with PrEP!

While a vaccine isn’t yet available, there are medications called PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) you can take to protect yourself from HIV. When taken as prescribed, PrEP can be 99% effective in preventing HIV infection.

PrEP can include:

  • injections taken every other month, or
  • daily medication

And, some of these same medications can also prevent HIV after unprotected sex, if taken within 72 hours.

The team with the Infectious Diseases Clinic at Strong Memorial Hospital can help you find the right medication for your needs. We can also guide you through the insurance process in covering these medications.
